The transformation behind Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour
Top makeup and hair designer Kazuhiro Tsuji was the genius behind Gary Oldman’s prosthetic masterpiece from Darkest Hour. Ivana Primorac, Lucy Sibbick, David Malinowski and Kazuhiro Tsuji accepted the Make Up & Hair award. The sheer precision and detail that went into the transformation was incredible (make sure you scroll down to watch the video about how the look was created because it’s quite inspiring)!!!!
Why Gary Oldman didn’t gain weight during his role on Darkest Hour (source from Variety.com):

Gary Oldman hardly ate or slept on set – all this to ensure that he didn’t ruin the 4hr prep to transform him into Winston Churchill. Kazuhiro said “He didn’t eat and if he did he would just have really small bits of food. So a lot of it is down to Gary, it’s not just us looking after it, it’s him looking after it for us”. That’s true dedication!!!!
I am so excited that I came across the next video from the Daily Mail which goes into more detail behind the award wining team on set:
I have trained in prosthetics and it’s hard, very intricate – you have to have a ridiculous level of concentration and patience with yourself and the actor! But it’s incredibly rewarding! Something I haven’t visited for years – I may go back to it one day….
Glowing skin on the Red Carpet:
From prosthetics on set to beauty on the Red Carpet, the BAFTA awards saw all women (well mostly all) dressed in black in support of the Times Up campaign. The styling was classic, chic and nothing too over the top, and so the makeup reflected this. Beautiful, flawless and glowing skin (very similar to the Golden Globes but not as eccentric on the eyes). Although the makeup was very natural, there were a few punchy red lips out there which reflected the mood well. If it wasn’t a red lip, then we saw beautiful accessorising from huge earrings (as we have seen all over the catwalk this year) to statement head pieces.
Pop’s Picks:
Perhaps a little controversial that The Duchess of Cambridge didn’t wear black to support the Times Up Campaign, as so many did at the BAFTA awards this evening. However, we know the Royal Family should remain as neutral as possible with no political influence so we can respect her decision. I think Kate was rather clever though with her choice of colour…. as we saw at The Golden Globes, green was used a lot to symbolise hope and this is seen here in her gorgeous Jenny Packham dress. And really how beautiful does she look with her bump. Just glowing Kate!!!

Jennifer Lawrence:
Glowing skin and a powerful strong lip – just beautiful – there are no other words. Take note – this is how makeup should done!! No disco ball or crazy 10point turns in contouring. Natural beauty enhanced at it’s best darling.

Lupita Nyongo:
Glowing and a punchy red lip. Effortless.

Angelina Jolie:
Always one for major girl crush! Never ages. Always about the eyes. Oh and the gorgeous statement earrings – wow!!!

Lilly James:
If you like it then you should have put a ring on it! I spy a diamond on that ring finger? Could it be?? Ok and back to makeup. – Lilly’s eyes are just mesmerising with the smokiness. If you notice her belt there are elements of green in it too (reflecting hope to support the Time Up campaign).

Anya Taylor:
Makeup is gorgeous, pretty, fresh and glowey. I am just not sure about the crown or the styling… sorry!

Margot Robbie:
Once again – take note. This is beautiful makeup. You can actually see her skin. Elegant and flawless. I need to find out who was her makeup artist and what was used – immediately !

Salma Hayek:
Of course I will end with Salma – even in black this is a statement dress with elements of green but the makeup is gorgeous! I am just loving the lippy colour though is anyone else? I need to find this colour….
