Met Gala 2018: some secrets behind the best dressed and most inspirational makeup
From headpieces to jewelled makeup - you will not be disappointed!
Wow – what a night at the Met Gala 2018! I don’t think subtlety was key…. Below are some of my faves including whose dress took over 600 hours to make…… and just in case you didn’t know, the theme for the event is for guests to dress to match the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibit. The theme for this year’s exhibit was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination which is the largest exhibition every mounted! Well that explains everything then! Hello head pieces galore!
Dress: Versace (wow – the jewels)! Oh and this was the dress that took over 600hours to make – omg!!! A work of art!
Makeup: Complimenting her Versace jewelled dress comes Blake’s makeup – and did you know that all the makeup used was drugstore makeup!? Just goes to show! Makeup Artist Kristofer Buckle used all Loreal to create this stunning look.
Dress: Versace (Um I think we need to discuss this – angel wings anyone)?
Makeup: When you have a dress as bold as this you kinda have to make the makeup compliment it but not go too far! Love the emphasis on her smokey eyes and strong brows. Don’t you just agree that her makeup is flawless!!
Dress: Versace (inspired by a stained glass window – I am really in love with her dress wouldn’t you agree)?
Makeup: Hello drugstore makeup – Makeup Artist Patrick Ta created this look wearing the new Maybelline New York Soda Pop palette (and Gigi was the first person to wear the palette on the red carpet)! I have read that Patrick’s view on her makeup was to “go bold or go home.” This seems rather apt given that her dress was inspired by a stained glass window. If you really zoom in to this picture you will see her matching nails to her dress – surely this must have taken hours to create?
Dress: Chrome Hearts
Makeup: Perfect makeup application ! Dewey, lit from within skin, perfectly chiselled. Love the gold accents to compliment wearing all black – I think this is a look we can all create – who wants to see me re-create it?
And now for a showstopper….
Makeup: Hello Brow art!! Her makeup artist Giselle Ali wanted her “brows to be glorified” – yes they certainly were – the whole look took 2hours and to be honest I think this was quick!! It takes precision to get these jewels in place and on evenly. And as for her nails – Nail Artist Gina Oh (Nicki Minaj’s girl) – created a literal work of art – a religious work of art (check out Gina Oh’s Instagram for a close up)
Makeup: Jewels Jewels Jewels everywhere! Why not when you need to compliment a stunning crown!! She really did glow though look at the body makeup!!! Lit from within darling!!! I am not sure about the red teardrop though – are you?
Makeup: Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic always creates a work of art on KKW! Using all of Kim’s line – it was all about heavily defined eyes.
Makeup: Every photo of her looks like a front cover of a magazine doesn’t it? Dewy skin and glowing everywhere with a gorgeous neutral pink gloss to finish.
Dress: Ralph Lauren
Makeup: I feel like we need to talk about her stunning Swarovski beaded Ralph Lauren hooded headpiece rather than the makeup – obsessed with this. Apparently it took over 250hours to create! Her stunning waves framed the face beautifully. The berry lip is my fave to compliment both the headpiece and her dress.
Dress: A custom made….wait for it….H&M gown! Love how the back of the dress sits it’s beautiful !
Makeup: I think we shall talk about the beautiful design throughout her hair. It would be rude not to! Hairstylist Renda Atti was behind this jaw-dropping creation. The stunning embellished braid with red roses really is a work of art!! Love it or hate it?

Using her Hollywood Flawless Filter to light up the skin and light wonder foundation followed by filmstar bronze and glow and the beauty lightwand. Marie Antionette on the eyes followed by her new collection ‘Exagger-eyes’ Bigger Brighter Eyes Palette on top. Audrey was used to line the top lashes followed by Legendry Lashes Volume 2 mascara. Lips was Lip Liner Kiss ‘N’ Tell followed by two of Charlottes Hollywood Lips Screen Siren and Walk of Fame
Dress: Oscar de la Renta
Makeup: Very Bridal and doll like with a renaissance feel – emphasis on cheeks and lips using the same colour pop. Love the minimal eyes with the veil being so outrageously fabulous !
Dress: Collaboration with H&M (wow)!
Makeup: Loving her inner jewelled eyes. Simple and effective complimented by a berry lip which offsets beautifully against her gold chain gown.
Makeup: Her waves were on point and the makeup flawless with a gold eyeshadow and plenty of liner finished off with a gorgeous matte lip – would we expect anything else?
